The aerospace sector in the north-west of England has received a £1.6 million boost, it has emerged.

The cash injection from the North West Development Agency will be warmly received by the North West Aerospace Alliance.

It follows £2.6 million in funding given to the group by the agency in January to help the alliance’s Aerospace Supply Chain Excellence Programme (ASCE).

This fresh funding will be used to offer leadership training and improve skills among workers in the industry.

Dr David Bailey, the director of the programme, said: "This latest addition to the programme will provide leadership training at both the executive and team leader levels and skills training in areas such as strategic business planning and project/risk management."

Together with funding from within the industry, it is thought that the alliance could receive £8.4 million by 2011.
