Sevenoaks council makes top 1%
Sevenoaks district council has been ranked in the top one per cent of all UK councils in terms of value for money, following an assessment from the Audit Commission.
Only one other council out of 238 received the top score for the category.
The council also reached the top two per cent in the UK for efficiency – with only seven district councils being awarded the category’s possible four out of four points.
Sevenoaks was found to have improved in all five of the Audit Commission’s key areas of financial reporting, financial management, financial standing, internal control and value for money.
Councillor Brian Ramsay, the council’s cabinet member with responsibility for finance, said: "To be named in the top two per cent for efficiency and the top one per cent for value for money is a fantastic achievement for everyone concerned.
"In recent years the council has taken great steps to improve efficiency and value for money, issues that our residents feel very strongly about," he added.
Seven areas of the council’s financial practice will be shared with other local authorities to help them make improvements.
