Councillors’ code of conduct simplified
A new simplified code of conduct has been introduced for local councillors in England.
Rules which previously stood in the way of councillors acting as advocates for their local communities have now been taken apart.
Local government minister Phil Woolas described the new code as "simpler and clearer". (more…)
Public Sector Jobs Week 2007
The Public Sector is gearing up for a week of promotions to highlight career opportunities within the sector during Public Sector Jobs Week 2007.
Held annually, it is an opportunity to highlight the whole sector as a viable career choice to those who may not have thought of the Public Sector as an option. The large variety of career choices include not only the more traditional roles in Taxation & Regulation, Social Security and Social Services, but also encompass more broadly the National Health System, Education System and our Transportation Network.

Ipswich unitary plan criticised
Plans to make Ipswich a unitary council have been criticised by councillors from Suffolk county council, which currently oversees the town.
A government consultation on whether Ipswich should be given unitary status will reach a conclusion on June 22nd. (more…)
Tories take English councils
The Conservative party has taken at least 15 English councils in yesterday’s local elections.
At the time of writing this morning, by which point 133 of 312 English council election results had been called, it was clear that Labour had lost at least five councils in England in the face of the Conservatives’ gain of 15. (more…)
Conference considers councils’ online services
A conference considering council online services that have been successful is being held in Birmingham on June 6th.
Council managers who would like to discover how to raise take-up of online services like planning, housing lettings, parking and recruitment and increase customer satisfaction, will be able to learn from the successes of other councils at the event. (more…)
