Acas to help council workers understand pay
The employment relations service, Acas, has launched a service to help council workers in the West Midlands better understand their equal pay settlements.
Local councils in the area are currently in the process of offering back-pay to hundreds of employees who have claims as pay scales and equal pay issues are brought up to date.
A series of presentations and drop-in sessions is being laid on to ensure that employees fully understand their own equal pay offer and giving them the opportunity to reach a settlement.
David Wait, Acas’ senior conciliator for the Midlands region, said: "The drop-in sessions assist employees to appreciate the issues, the options open to them, and the implications of accepting the settlement offer.
"Acas’ role is to ensure each employee has the opportunity to make an informed decision."
Mr Wait added that Acas cannot give advice on whether employees should accept or decline their offer.
Acas is responsible for helping to settle claims that have been or could have been made to an employment tribunal.
