DWP launches rehabilitation task force

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has unveiled a new vocational rehabilitation task group set with the role of helping people return to work after an injury or illness.

Announcing the initiative, DWP minister Lord McKenzie said that both public and private employers needed to do more to support employees who had suffered from a debilitating knock to their health or wellbeing. (more…)

Volunteering placed at heart of community cohesion

The Commission on Integration and Cohesion has published its widely-anticipated final report on community cohesion, concluding that specific localised solutions hold the key.

Communities secretary Ruth Kelly established the independent commission in August 2006 and set it the task of proposing viable steps to foster greater integration in communities across the country. Its findings suggest that voluntary work could be instrumental in achieving this. (more…)

Worker Skills Pledge gains momentum

One hundred and fifty employers in the UK have now committed to the Skills Pledge, promising to train their staff with the expertise they need to compete globally.

By signing up to the vow, employers promise to provide their entire workforce with full level two qualifications, which delivers basic literary and numeracy training equivalent to five GCSE A to C grades. (more…)

Wychavon council rated ‘excellent’

Wychavon district council has been rated ‘excellent’ after an assessment from the Audit Commission.

After considering the council’s ambitions, its ability to improve its services and its recent achievements, the commission upgraded the council’s rating from ‘good’, which it was given at the last assessment. (more…)

Government proposes single equality bill

Proposals for a single equality bill were today published by the government.

The Discrimination Law Review (DLR) will aim to prevent discrimination in the workplace by making equality law clearer.

The bill is looking to simplify and improve existing legislation as well as make proposals to modernise discrimination law. (more…)
