Local government organisations ‘experiencing recruitment difficulties’
Many local authorities and their network partners are experiencing difficulties in sourcing appropriate talent pools or adopting efficient talent management structures, it has been claimed.
Local Government Analysis and Research (LGAR) has cited results of a survey by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, which suggests that four out of five such organisations have reported difficulty in recruiting for one or more vacancy. (more…)
Marketing and education ‘key to public sector development’
Educating potential talent pools about the advantages and opportunities of working in the public sector will be vital to its ongoing success, according to a new report.
Conducted by analysts Badenoch and Clark, the report argues that effective marketing of roles such as through e-recruitment will help to develop the sector as it continues to work with and compete with private enterprises. (more…)
Environmental obligations for planning ‘will remain’
Ministers have insisted that environmental obligations will remain when a revised planning policy on climate change for English councils is published towards the end of the year.
Responding to reports about plans to drop the "Merton Rule", the government has insisted that the policy will remain in place and planning authorities and their network partners will be required to ensure that environmental measures are in place before approving applications, potentially increasing the number of planning jobs available. Funders ‘reaching out to BME organisations’
Bradford is to host a charity event to help black and minority ethnic (BME) voluntary organisations secure funding.
The Consortia of Ethnic Minority Organisations (COEMO) is hoping to gather funding from BME network partners in the area, community newswire reports.

Unitary authority discussion paper published
A discussion paper has been released today allowing local authorities to comment on proposed approaches to the creation of unitary authorities in nine areas of the country.
