Funders ‘reaching out to BME organisations’

Posted in News on the August 24th, 2007

Bradford is to host a charity event to help black and minority ethnic (BME) voluntary organisations secure funding.

The Consortia of Ethnic Minority Organisations (COEMO) is hoping to gather funding from BME network partners in the area, community newswire reports.

COEMO is hoping that talent specialists at the event, including the attendance of guest speaker Caroline James from the Big Lottery Fund, community groups and key stakeholders, will secure additional voluntary funding

As part of the Capacity Builders Improving Reach programme, the event is scheduled to take place at the Carlisle Business Centre, Bradford, on September 5th.

The organisation’s chief executive, Mohammed Salem, commented that it is difficult for BME organisations to secure finance under the present funding regime.

"I am pleased to see that the Big Lottery Fund is taking the approach of reaching the hard-to-reach communities," he added.

Formed in October 2000, the COEMO seeks to help ethic minority organisations to be more participative in mainstream activities and "to influence the perceptions of funders towards their work".
