Local government organisations ‘experiencing recruitment difficulties’
Many local authorities and their network partners are experiencing difficulties in sourcing appropriate talent pools or adopting efficient talent management structures, it has been claimed.
Local Government Analysis and Research (LGAR) has cited results of a survey by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, which suggests that four out of five such organisations have reported difficulty in recruiting for one or more vacancy.
However, the public and voluntary sectors are reported to be performing slightly better than other areas, with 80 per cent and 81 per cent respectively experiencing problems with finding talent on demand, compared to an average of 84 per cent across all sectors.
In particular, managerial and professional roles are proving hardest to fill, the data suggests.
Meanwhile, employee retention is also proving difficult, with the national figure rising from 69 per cent in 2005 to 78 per cent this year - although once again the public sector reports slightly easier conditions at 72 per cent.
Recently the LGAR worked with the Local Government Association to develop a programme evaluating issues affecting migration.
