EFA calls for discussion on age discrimination

Posted in News on the September 10th, 2007

The Employers Forum on Age has in recent days responded to the single equality bill green paper by calling on the government to speak with employers on the subject.

It states that not to do so would be to miss an opportunity to overcome age discrimination in such areas as talent management and e-recruitment.

Sam Mercer, chief executive at the forum, remarks: "There is clearly an urgent need to address the massive inequalities faced by older people in the provision of public services, particularly in accessing appropriate health and social care."

The EFA suggested that more time to consider the implications of the green paper would also be useful in ensuring that age discrimination legislation works, as well as a chance to review the impact of legislation previously passed on the topic.

Earlier this year, the EFA welcomed a change in the law which afforded new rights to all workers with caring responsibilities regarding flexible working.

More about age discrimination.
