Engagement and motivation ‘essential to the public sector’

A new report from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) has called on public sector managers to focus more attention on engaging and motivating their employees.

Entitled Fit for Business II: Transforming HR in the Public Sector, the report is based on continuing research into the challenges that public sector organisations face when transforming the HR function. (more…)

Compact Voice seeks third sector views on development

Community and voluntary organisations across the UK have been urged this week to express their opinions on the development of Compact, an agreement between such bodies, their network partners and the government.

The representative arm of the organisation, Compact Voice, is seeking feedback on experiences of its operation, Community Newswire reports, prior to reporting its findings to government ministers. (more…)

Voluntary sector brought in to deliver Pathways to Work

Voluntary sector professionals will be interested to hear that training and employment companies from the voluntary sector will join companies from the private sector to deliver the next step of the government’s Pathways to Work programme.

The work and pensions secretary Peter Hain announced the move to involve the voluntary and private sector as network partners at the Institute for Public Policy Research conference in Brighton today. (more…)

Scotland one step closer to seeing unified skills body

Scotland is one step closer to seeing the creation of a unified skills body following the announcement that the two network partners, Careers Scotland and learndirect Scotland would be merged into one body.

The announcement will also be welcome news to those looking into better talent management for local authority jobs as the proposed merger will bring a "new focus on skills" according to education and lifelong learning secretary Fiona Hyslop. (more…)
