Councils ‘welcome equal pay arrangements’

Posted in News on the October 2nd, 2007

The Local Government Association (LGA) has welcomed a call from John Healey MP to allow councils the flexibility to implement equal pay schemes.

The communities and local government minister’s plans have met with the LGA’s approval, with the association stating that it and its network partners will now be able to deal with the "urgent issue".

Sir Steve bullock, chair of the Local Government Employers, remarks: "Councils want equal pay within their workforce and are working hard to achieve it.

"This announcement is a major step along the road of achieving equal pay for the local government workforce."

It is hoped that the initiative will increase sustainable efficiencies in the sector and could improve terms and conditions for those seeking public sector jobs.

In news which might interest those seeking social work roles, the LGA recently stated that the case for diverting some NHS funding into social care was "compelling".

More about sustainable efficiencies.
