Graduates ‘looking to internet when applying for jobs’

Posted in News on the October 10th, 2007

Those looking to attract graduate job applicants could be well advised to make use of online recruitment systems, a new study indicates.

The news comes as research carried out by Milkround.com reveals that some 83 per cent of students and graduates make use of recruitment websites when searching for jobs.

Meanwhile, the study also indicated that 37 per cent of respondents view such sites as being superior to other methods of looking for jobs in the public sector and other types of employment, such as careers fairs.

Consequently, such news could be welcomed by those operating in the public sector considering using e-recruitment techniques.

Spokesperson Mike Barnard told Online Recruitment: "These results prove companies cannot afford not to advertise their graduate jobs online.

"With so much of a student’s time at university - and life in general - based around the internet, young people are very likely to use it for finding work as well."

Meanwhile, Jeremy Pemberton-Pigott, director of ASE, recently reported that the screening of job applications online can help managers within the recruitment system process and track the most suitable candidates effectively.
