Services package launched for voluntary sector leaders

Posted in News on the October 10th, 2007

Leaders working within the voluntary sector are on track to benefit from a new skills package, it has been revealed.

The news comes as the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) has launched the Leadership Services programme aimed at helping foster networking services and personal development opportunities.

In addition to receiving access to research, policy briefings and events, leaders can also make use of online resources and establish network links with others.

The scheme is also targeted towards the next generation of leaders within the industry, news which may be of interest to people looking towards talent management to attract future employees as well as those seeking jobs in the voluntary sector.

In addition there will be executive coaching classes and legal support.

Stuart Etherington, chief executive for the NCVO, said: "The skills that voluntary sector leaders need are both distinct and multidimensional. They are faced with particular accountability structures, different reporting environments, investment strategies and increasingly complex demands from partners, funders and investors.

"They must also practice political and strategic leadership [and] foster community relationships, whilst keeping everyone - from volunteers to their beneficiaries - on board."

Earlier this month, it was revealed that the Improvement and Development Agency launched a training scheme helping public sector commissioners working alongside third sector bodies to win public service contracts.
