Third sector asked to provide volunteer management feedback

Posted in News on the October 18th, 2007

Third sector organisations are being asked to provide feedback on a new set of standards regarding the managing of volunteers.

Under the National Occupational Standards, produced by the UK Workforce Hub, a new draft of updated standards has been released reflecting the challenges managers working for voluntary and community organisations may face, for example employee retention and risk management, reports the Third Sector.

Now people working for such organisations are being asked to give their views on the standards, news which may be of interest to those seeking recruitment management solutions.

Esther Gillespie, learning and skills manager for the Workforce Hub, said: "This draft of the new standards is being made available for the next three months so that we can gain significant feedback about whether we have captured all the job functions and relevant performance criteria for volunteer managers."

She added that it is "crucial" that as many people as possible provide feedback "so that these standards are redeveloped to reflect the vital role that managers of volunteers undertake".

Earlier this month, Janet Gaymer, from the Office of the Commissioner for Public Appointments, stated that more needs to be done to ensure that those on the boards of public sector bodies reflect the communities they serve.
