Third sector receives funding boost

Moves by Capacitybuilders to increase funding for the third sector have been welcomed, it has emerged.

According to the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO), the decision by Capacitybuilders to boost investment into its Learning and Innovation Programme by some £1 million per year will help those with jobs in the third sector to increase levels of support in ICT and workforce development.

As a result, the news could well be welcomed by managers looking to use a skills framework to improve performance.

Commenting on the announcement, Ben Kernighan, deputy chief executive of the NCVO, said: "I am very pleased that Capacitybuilders listened to our concerns and have decided to invest an additional £1 million of resources in supporting the third sector in issues around workforce and ICT."

Meanwhile, recent research from the Office of the Third Sector has revealed that government spending, both from local and central authorities, on charities and voluntary organisations has increased over recent years.
