Ethnic minority survey launched for charity sector

Charities may soon able to monitor the perception held by people from ethnic minorities of their activities, it has been revealed.

The Ethnic Minorities Charity Engagement Monitor service, from thinktank nfpSynergy, will explore the attitudes of people aged 18 to 75, from Caribbean, Asian, African and European minority backgrounds, towards those working in the voluntary sector. (more…)

E-recruitment can help “most suitable candidates progress”

Screening job applications online can prove useful to those looking to make best use of employment tracking, it has been suggested.

According to Jeremy Pemberton-Pigott, director of ASE, a wide number of recruiters are using e-recruitment techniques to judge an applicant’s suitability for a position as they can help managers select attractive candidates with more ease. (more…)

Public sector workers ’seek flexibility as they get older’

More needs to be done to eradicate age discrimination within the public sector, it has been suggested.

The warning comes as research by FDA, a union for those working in public sector, reported that over a quarter of its members working in the civil service want the right to work until beyond the age of 65. (more…)

Age discrimination ’still exists’ in recruitment ads

Despite the progress being made, a number of job advertisements are still failing to follow age discrimination legislation, it has been suggested.

In research released by law firm DWF, some 21 per cent of advertisements analysed are potentially ageist, in spite of age discrimination within the workplace being outlawed for over a year. (more…)

Councils ‘welcome equal pay arrangements’

The Local Government Association (LGA) has welcomed a call from John Healey MP to allow councils the flexibility to implement equal pay schemes.

The communities and local government minister’s plans have met with the LGA’s approval, with the association stating that it and its network partners will now be able to deal with the "urgent issue". (more…)
