Community groups receive energy saving advice

Posted in News on the November 6th, 2007

Community groups are set to receive free guidance on how to set up projects which will help to tackle climate change and save energy.

The announcement comes as the Energy Saving Trust launches a number of one-day training schemes across the country as part of its Community Action for Energy (CAfE) programme.

Now the trust is calling for organisations operating in the voluntary sector to attend its Making It Happen courses.

Verity Saunders, CAfE senior project manager, said: "If you are concerned with helping the environment, saving energy and helping people save money on their fuel and you are keen to develop a local energy project, then Making It Happen is for you."

The training schemes will teach groups on the best way they can work with energy agencies, local government bodies and other network partners to bring about community-based environment initiatives.

Earlier this month, Yvette Cooper, the housing and planning minister, reported that the design standards for ten proposed new eco-towns are to be determined by an ideas competition organised by the government and its network partners.
