New public sector standards launched

A new set of standards targeted at those operating in the public sector have been launched today, it has emerged.

The documentation is designed to help officials improve the quality of data that they use to manage and report their activities, news which may be of interest to those working in the public sector looking to make the best use of talent management.

Steve Bundred, chief executive of the Audit Commission, said: "Auditors recognise that service providers need reliable, accurate, timely and clear information to make judgments about the efficiency, effectiveness and responsiveness of their services."

He added that the standards are not mandatory, but should be used "flexibly and proportionately" to help those working in the public sector to make decisions about how best to provide services to local people.

The guidelines were developed following previous work in the health, police, youth offending and social care services, which highlighted the importance of data quality when assessing performance.

In related news, Acevo and the Development Trust Association announced earlier this month that it was looking for feedback from those operating in the public sector on a draft of publications setting out best practice standards in relation to procurement skills.
