Employers ‘need to help staff develop’
The offering of incentives and professional development could help companies, including those operating in the public sector, to retain staff, new figures show.
In research released by FSS and sister firm Crone Corkill, more than 70 per cent of job seekers, who may well be targeted by employees via a regional recruitment portal, state that they would stay with their present position if more opportunities were open to them.
Meanwhile, 14 per cent claim that being promoted would keep them in their current job, news which may be of benefit to those looking to boost employee retention rates.
Commenting on the study, Paul Marsh, director of human resources for FSS, said: "With the war for talent showing no sign of slowing down, the good news for companies is that they may need look no further than identifying ways of developing their staff."
Mr Marsh also pointed out that employers need to make sure that they are measuring levels of staff satisfaction.
Meanwhile, a study conducted by public sector union FDA revealed that more than a quarter of its civil servant members are looking for "greater flexibility" as they get older.
