‘Optimism noted’ in employment prospects
Employment prospects over the medium and short-term remain optimistic, new figures indicate.
Research released by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and KPMG’s Labour Market Outlook survey reveals that 86 per cent of employers, including those operating in the public sector, intend to recruit staff over the course of the autumn.
Meanwhile, a quarter (25 per cent) of public sector organisations are aiming to boost their workforce, with a regional recruitment portal one possible way to attract applicants.
The figures come despite negative predictions about the impact of the credit crunch.
John Philpott, chief economist for the CIPD, said: "Despite the evident optimism in this quarter’s survey it remains likely that the demand for labour will ease during the course of 2008 as the impact of recent interest rates rises and the aftermath of the credit crunch is felt throughout the economy."
In a study conducted earlier this year, the UK Workforce Hub and the National Council for Voluntary Organisations revealed that the number of workers in the voluntary sector have increased by 26 per cent over the last decade.
