Voluntary sector ‘can help bring real change’
The Ministry of Justice is looking to set up an advisory group to measure how well it works with those operating in the voluntary sector, it has emerged.
In a consultation paper released by the department, it is suggested that such a body may create a third sector strategy.

English Heritage rolls social networking website
English Heritage has launched a social networking website, it has emerged.
Our Place, which is aimed at people working for heritage sector organisations involved in education and community engagement, allows members to share information about the projects that they are operating in. (more…)
Investment made in regional third sector groups
Third sector organisations across the country are to receive a funding boost, it has emerged.
The news comes as the Big Lottery Fund has awarded the Association of Chief Executives of Voluntary Organisations (acevo) some £500,000 over the next three years to allocate to those working for charities and voluntary bodies throughout Britain. (more…)
Home Office ‘to meet minority recruitment targets’
The Home Office is on track to meet targets regarding both the recruitment and retention of staff from ethnic minority backgrounds, new reports reveal.
According to the eighth annual Race Employment Targets Report, the Border and Immigration Agency, the Forensic Science Service, Identity and Passport Service and core Home Office areas have all exceeded their aims in boosting employment levels of people from minority groups. (more…)
BME leadership programme launched
A new mentoring initiative has been launched to help prepare black and minority ethnic staff (BMEs) for leadership roles within the civil service.
In news that could be of interest to those working in the public sector, the Growing Talent scheme by the Minority Ethnic Talent Association will see the 12 successful applicants paired with mentors from who have worked at director general level or as secretaries. (more…)
