New scheme launched for voluntary bodies

Those working for voluntary bodies and community organisations are being invited to join a new bursary scheme, it has emerged.

The Only Connect initiative, run by the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO), aims to help third sector groups who want to learn more about winning contracts for public services. (more…)

Texting proves ‘effective’ means of communication for charities

A new text messaging service could help third sector organisations in their campaigning methods, it has emerged.

The news comes as BulkSMS.co.uk has launched Community.BulkSMS.co.uk, which allows those working for charities and voluntary bodies to send out reminders, notifications or alerts via text messages at a reduced cost.

It was suggested that messaging could be used by charities as a call to action for the community. (more…)

New survey to boost “intelligence base” of charities

A charity confidence study is to be rolled out next year, it has emerged.

Launched by the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO), the Charity Prospects Survey will track the opinions of leaders of third sector organisations on current and forecasted trends affecting the industry. (more…)

Charity-focused social networking site to be launched

A social networking website dedicated to charities and voluntary organisations is due to be rolled out next year.

MyCharityPage.com, which is modelled on sites such as Facebook and MySpace, will allow users to create personal profiles documenting their fundraising activities and their favourite third sector bodies. (more…)

Third sector bodies play “important role” in Northern Ireland

The Northern Irish Assembly should use the introduction of a charity commission to help provide greater transparency among those operating for third sector organisations in the principality, it has been suggested.

According to Chief Officers 3rd Sector (CO3), Northern Ireland’s representative body for charity leaders, such a commission could strengthen the sector, news that could be of interest to those working for charities who are looking to boost sustainable efficiencies. (more…)
