Scottish government merges public sector bodies

Posted in News on the January 22nd, 2008

The Scottish government has merged its charities and social enterprise organisations, it has emerged.

It was claimed that those working for such public sector institutions face many of the same issues.

Now the third sector division has four departments which aim to develop key investment schemes, increase support for the sector at a local stage, work with commissioners on procurement processes and engage with those working for such institutions on a policy level.

Such news may not only be of interest to those seeking jobs in the public sector, but also those bodies which are looking to use a regional recruitment portal to attract such candidates.

Tracey Slaven, deputy director, third sector and social economy at the Scottish Government, said: "The division will continue existing work such as supporting national intermediaries and implementing the social enterprise strategy.

"But the new structure recognises the shared nature of many of the issues facing both voluntary organisations and social enterprises, such as commissioning and connecting with community planning partnerships."

In other public sector news in the country, the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations asked those groups working in the voluntary sector on how it can be more responsive towards their needs.
