Navca receives funding boost
The National Association for Voluntary and Community Action (Navca) has received a total of more than £2 million in lottery grants to help those working for voluntary organisations and charities, it has emerged.
Receiving a £1.07 million grant from the Big Lottery Fund’s Basis programme, the local infrastructure umbrella group is to set up a commissioning and procurement unit.

Businesses and charities “benefit” from corporate volunteering
Allowing staff to volunteer brings benefits not only for charities but also for businesses, it has been suggested.
According to findings by the National Centre for Social Research and Institute for Volunteering Research, giving employees time off to work for charities and voluntary bodies could bring a number of benefits.

Local authorities ‘who deliver’ to receive funding boost
Those local authorities which have innovative and effective means of improving their area and increasing the number of jobs available could receive a grant, it has emerged.
Under a new government award programme for "raising prosperity", those working for such public sector bodies will be able to share a piece of £3 million.

Umbrella groups welcome charity proposals
Two umbrella organisations representing people who work in the third sector have welcomed new guidance by the Charity Commission, it has emerged.
Both the Association of Chief Executives of Voluntary Organisations (acevo) and National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) have praised proposals by the commission for charities to demonstrate their value to members of the public.

Sustainability ‘can bring business benefits’
Sustainability is to be the focus of this year’s National Learning at Work Day (NLWD), it has emerged.
Taking place on May 22nd, the day aims to help both employers and employees, which could include those working in the public sector, to become more conscious about the environment and how they can affect the impact that they have on it.
