Third sector groups invited to join funding scheme

Posted in News on the February 5th, 2008

Those working for local organisations within the third sector are being invited to apply to become a partner in a multimillion pound grants programme.

Launched by the Community Development Foundation, the Grassroots Grants initiative help community and voluntary groups to become a local funder which will see them provide grants to smaller bodies within their region.

In addition, it was claimed that such organisations would receive funding through an endowment match challenge, which in turn could help to maintain sustainable efficiencies.

Overall, £130 million will be handed out between this year and 2011.

Some £80 million of this sum will be in a small grants fund for community organisations, with the remainder - a “groundbreaking” £50 million - put into an endowments programme to enable local funders to generate further donations on a matched basis.

Phil Hope, minister for the Third Sector, claimed that the scheme will help “to boost the smallest third sector organisations and the local funders that are often the best at reaching out to the most vulnerable people in our communities”.

In January, it was revealed that a total of £3.8 billion is to be invested into public sector bodies in Wales over the next 12 months.

More about sustainable efficiencies.
