‘Good relationships needed’ for third sector leaders

Posted in News on the February 25th, 2008

The Association of Chief Executives of Voluntary Organisations (acevo) has published guidance for leaders working in the third sector, it has emerged.

Targeted at chief executives, the publication aims to develop working relationships with board members and chairs by making use of case studies which show examples of best practice, ThirdSector.co.uk reports

Peter Kyle, director of strategy for the acevo, said: "The relationship between chair and chief executive is the bedrock for strong leadership in an organisation and provides the springboard for any future successes."

It was claimed that the underperformance of charity boards is currently a major concern.

He added that good working relationships among those working at the top are "essential" for any organisation operating in the third sector.

Following on from such advice, it is possible that the skills portal could help chief executives working for voluntary and community groups to improve the effectiveness of the institution that they work for.

Earlier this month, it was revealed that a new management course has been launched by the Centre for Strategy and Communication for leaders working in the voluntary sector.
