Leicestershire council ‘making progress’

Leicestershire county council is showing signs of progress in terms of offering a quality service, a new Audit Commission study shows.

In the commission’s corporate assessment report, those working for the public sector group were deemed to be "performing well" and taking steps to improve the region’s economic, social and environmental prospects.

Furthermore, it was praised for delivering a service which provides value for money.

Nigel Toms, senior manager at the Audit Commission, said: "Leicestershire county council continues to make significant progress, both in the way it works and to services."

The local authority was also commended for "key successes" following its operations with network partners to reduce anti-social behaviour and improve school results and bus services.

It was also pointed out that older residents are receiving a variety of services, with the typical life expectancy in the area above nationwide figures.

Earlier this week, those working for Derby city council were praised by the commission for offering a higher than average service.
