Capacitybuilders announces charity funding

Posted in News on the February 27th, 2008

Three organisations operating in the charity sector are set to receive investment from Capacitybuilders, it has emerged.

Benefiting from about £2 million over the next three years, Rural-net, the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) and the National Association for Voluntary and Community Action (Navca) will use the money to develop workforce and ICT projects.

Navca is to receive grants of £1.1 million and £550,000 to establish regional ICT centres and create learning opportunities for development workers respectively.

NCVO will benefit from a £112,000 windfall to help the skills and qualifications for those working in the voluntary sector, with Rural-net set to get some £150,000 to increase the provision of IT support across the country.

Such investment could help charities and voluntary groups to improve the skills framework of their staff.

Simon Hebditch, chief executive of Capacitybuilders, said: "Our overall aim is to bring about a real change in the effectiveness and efficiency of the sector, constantly seeking to drive up standards.

"These national priorities, working alongside our new national support service programme, will add significantly to these objectives."

Earlier this month, the Scottish parliament revealed that some £93 million is to be invested into the third sector during the next three years.
