Guide for working with vulnerable communities launched

A new guide has been launched to help those working for charities to reach vulnerable people, it has emerged.

Brought out by Look Ahead and funded by the Housing Corporation and Shelter, the free publication analyses the institution’s experience of working with those from marginalised sections of society such as the homeless, people with mental health difficulties and the young.

Derby council praised by Audit Commission

Derby city council has been praised in a recent report by the Audit Commission.

In the latest corporate assessment report by the commission, those working for the public sector group were deemed as providing an above average service to its residents.

Workers ‘keen to receive training’

Employees think that more consideration should be given to training in the workplace, new research shows.

A study carried out by the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) indicated that 42 per cent of workers believe their employer is unlikely to allow them to take part in training programmes.

New management course launched for third sector leaders

Leaders operating in the voluntary sector are being offered the chance to go on a management course, it has been revealed.

Rolled out by the Centre for Strategy and Communication and the Royal Holloway college of University of London, the higher education certificate in leadership and management is targeted specifically at those working on behalf of charities and voluntary groups.

London community groups invited to apply for green grant

Those working for non-profit organisations and community groups are being invited to apply for an environmentally-friendly grant.

A total of £1 million is available via the Big Green Challenge for such institutions who think of new ways in which to cut carbon emissions in south London.
