Employers warned of age discrimination against the young

Employers, which may include those working in the public sector, must take steps to ensure they are not guilty of age discrimination against young people.

Such is the claim of the Employers Forum on Age (EFA), where a recent report indicated that one in five people under the age of 20 have felt put off from applying for a job because of how old they are - the highest proportion of any demographic.

Employers ‘need to be aware of age discrimination legislation’

Despite legislation banning it being in place for over a year, age discrimination is still a common occurrence in the workplace, new research shows.

In a study carried out by Axa, it was revealed that about three of out five Britons, which could include those working in the public sector, have retired ahead of the statutory age of 65.

Charities to receive CRB help

A charity that supports learning disability service providers is to help those working for smaller charities and voluntary groups in Northern Ireland pay for criminal record checks.

From April, organisations wanting to request criminal record bureau checks will have to pay a one-off registration fee of £150. They will also be charged up to £30 per check, although checks on volunteers are free.

NI charities asked to give opinions

Those working for charities and voluntary organisations in Northern Ireland are being asked to give their views on what is affecting the third sector, it has emerged.

As part of its State of the Sector survey, the Northern Ireland Council for Voluntary Action (Nicva) is looking for such institutions to put forward their opinions on how it can improve its regular research into the scope of the voluntary sector in the principality.

Funding boost for Scottish third sector

Those working for third sector groups in Scotland are set to receive a funding boost, it has emerged.

Following the Scottish parliament’s approval of the first budget by the country’s new government, some £93 million is to be invested over the next three years, reports ThirdSector.co.uk.
