Charities invited to apply for funding

Those with jobs at voluntary and charity groups who work with former prisoners are being invited to apply for a multimillion pound funding programme, it has been revealed.

Operated by Lloyds TSB, the initiative aims to help support third sector groups which work with former offenders to reintegrate them into normal society.

Employer volunteer guidance released

Volunteering England has published a new set of guidance to help businesses, which may include those working in the public sector, launch employer-supported volunteering initiatives, it has been revealed.

Available on do-it.org.uk, the service is targeted specifically towards small and medium-sized enterprises and will assist them in sourcing volunteering opportunities that charities believe are suitable for such programmes.

Coaching ‘can assist with workforce development’

The majority of firms, which could include those working in the public sector, offer coaching, a new study has revealed.

Research carried out by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) indicated that about three-quarters of organisations provide such guidance.

Voluntary groups in Scotland receive financial boost

Thousands of pounds in monetary assistance is to be granted to those working for voluntary groups in Scotland, it has been revealed.

Apex Scotland, Families Outside, National Children’s Homes (NCH) and Safeguarding Communities - Reducing Offending (Sacro) will receive a total of £874,563 over 2008-09 to provide community-based criminal justice services.

Charity Commission given ‘better regulation’ for charities

Phil Hope, minister for the Third Sector, has announced a number of legislative changes for those working in the third sector, it has emerged.

In the third commencement order of the 2006 Charities Act it was revealed that the Charity Commission has been granted more comprehensive powers to protect charitable organisations and in cases can govern the direction of a charity, or those in charge of running it, should it believe misconduct or mismanagement has taken place.
