Social workers ‘are skilled and sought-after’

An increasing number of social workers are being employed by local authorities, new research shows.

Figures released by Community Care also reveal that those working in this area of the public sector are more likely to hold qualifications in relation to the field, with this partially attributed to the presence of a social work degree and increases in the availability of post-qualification training.

Young people ‘feel they can relate to charities’

Young Britons feel that they can relate to those working for charities, new research shows.

A study carried out by nfpSynergy, as part of its Charity Awareness Monitor, reveals that just under half (47 per cent) of 16 to 24-year-olds state that they trust such organisations.

‘More people with disabilities volunteering’

An increasing number of people with disabilities are volunteering within the conservation sector, it has been revealed.

Conservation firm BTCV claims in its diversity report that a tenth of its "key volunteers", those who give a certain period of time to volunteer, have a disability.

In its latest study, the institution gave those working for the public sector body a rating of two stars out of a possible three.

Camden supporting people services praised by commission

Camden has been commended for its supporting people programme in an independent report released by the Audit Commission.

The London borough was awarded a two star rating out of three stars for its services, which will soon be extended to give support to people suffering from mental health problems.
