Alliance institution created for disability charities
A number of charities working with people with disabilities are to operate together as network partners, it has been revealed.
Following a £4.2 million grant from the Big Lottery Fund, seven organisations - including Scope, People First and the Alliance for Inclusive Education - have formed Disability Listen, Include, Build.
Also known as Disability Lib, the new institution aims to help those operating in this area of the third sector to access funds.
In addition, it will also look to make sure disability charities are not left out of national capacity-building initiatives.
Andy Rickell, director of Scope and chair of the new body, said: "Disability Lib will work to turn around the fortunes of disabled people’s organisations.
"However, radical change is also needed from the third sector and beyond if disabled people’s organisations are to become stronger and sustainable in the future."
Last month, it was revealed that the National Association for Voluntary and Community Action, Rural-net and the National Council for Voluntary Organisations it to receive some £2 million from CapacityBuilders to improve ICT and workforce projects.
