Local authorities to receive climate change fund

Posted in News on the March 13th, 2008

A multimillion pound initiative has been unveiled to help those working in the public sector improve their environmentally-friendly practices, it has been revealed.

Funded by Communities and Local Government and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, the £4 million fund will allow local councils to provide training to staff on how to reduce their environmental impact and exchange examples of best practice.

Environment minister Phil Woolas said: "Local authorities have a vital role to play in tackling climate change through local leadership and service delivery."

Following on from receiving such funding, it is possible that local councils could discover that they are able to maintain sustainable efficiencies with greater ease.

Meanwhile, Mr Woolas commended a number of local authorities, including Worcestershire county council and Eastleigh borough council, for receiving Beacon status for their work in tackling climate change.

Earlier this month, Every Action Counts released the Changing the Way We Work publication advising those working in the third sector on how to adapt sustainability practices within their office space.

More about sustainable efficiencies.
