Voluntary groups in Scotland receive financial boost

Posted in News on the March 25th, 2008

Thousands of pounds in monetary assistance is to be granted to those working for voluntary groups in Scotland, it has been revealed.

Apex Scotland, Families Outside, National Children’s Homes (NCH) and Safeguarding Communities - Reducing Offending (Sacro) will receive a total of £874,563 over 2008-09 to provide community-based criminal justice services.

Sacro and NCH will receive £380,005 and £53,052 respectively to assist with offenders and ex-offenders wishing to access training and employment opportunities.

Apex is to receive £382,693, while £58,813 will go to Families Outside.

Following on from such investment, the voluntary groups may be able to improve the skills framework of their staff.

Kenny MacAskill, justice secretary, said: "The voluntary sector provides crucial guidance at important times in an offender’s life - offering them a positive alternative and a path out of repeat offending.

"Not just good for the individual - but good for public safety and our economy."

In other news, it was recently revealed that a £4 million fund has been established by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and Communities and Local Government to help local councils bolster their environmentally-friendly practices.

More skills framework.
