Cost changes announced for criminal record checks

Posted in News on the April 2nd, 2008

Those wishing to work with children and vulnerable adults are set to be required to pay £64 in order for official checks to be carried out.

From October of next year, people - which could include those working in the third sector - will be required to pay £28 to register with the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA).

In addition, a fee of £36 will need to be made for a criminal record bureau (CRB) enhanced disclosure.

However, volunteers will not be required to meet such costs.

Such news could be of interest to those people seeking work in the public sector via a regional recruitment portal.

Meg Hillier, home office minister, said: "From October 2009, employers will be able to check that individual staff members have been assessed for work with vulnerable groups, further enhancing one of the most robust employment checking systems in the world."

Roger Singleton, chair of the ISA, added that the initiative will cover some 11.3 million people working across Britain.

Earlier this year it was revealed that ARC NI is to provide financial support to small charities in Northern Ireland looking to meet the cost of CRB checks.
