Charities given energy saving guidance

Posted in News on the April 16th, 2008

Those working for charities have been issued with guidance on how to save energy, it has been revealed.

In a publication released by the Carbon Trust, it was stated that charity and community groups should organise their offices in such a way that makes the best use of natural daylight and ventilation.

Furthermore, third sector organisations were recommended to make the switch from desktop computers to laptops, as the latter were indicated to be more energy efficient, ThirdSector.co.uk reports.

In the foreword to the guide, Dame Suzi Leather, chair of the Charity Commission, claimed: "Thinking about how to improve the environmental sustainability of the way they work provides charities with a great opportunity to make an invaluable contribution towards protecting the planet and our environment."

After taking onboard such guidance, it may be possible that charities are able to maintain sustainable efficiencies more effectively.

Last month, the Changing the Way We Work guide published by Every Action Counts gave third sector groups advice on adopting environmentally-friendly practices such as a cycle-to-work scheme and using windows ahead of air conditioning to manage temperatures.

More about sustainable efficiencies.
