New social business guide launched

Posted in News on the April 17th, 2008

A new website has been launched targeting those working for social enterprises, it has been revealed.

Operated by Catalyst, Socialinvestments.com offers an explanation into what social investment means and a glossary of various terms.

In addition the site will help social enterprises, which are in need of funding, develop links with potential investors.

Rodney Schwartz, chief executive of Catalyst, said: "It was clear that this rapidly growing area of business was attracting more attention, but for the interested and socially concerned investor there was nowhere to go for practical information on the expanding opportunities available."

Following on from forging links as network partners with investors, social enterprises may find that they are able to run their operations more effectively.

The website will also incorporate a framework for categorising social enterprises and a blog by Mr Schwartz.

Earlier this month, Jim Mather, enterprise minister for the Scottish parliament, claimed that adopting a social enterprise model can help charity and voluntary groups provide social and environmental benefits in a sustainable manner.
