N Ireland charities ‘to benefit from technology scheme’

Posted in News on the April 25th, 2008

Those working for charities and voluntary organisations in Northern Ireland are set to receive a technological boost, it emerged.

In an announcement by the Northern Ireland Council for Voluntary Action (Nicva), it was revealed that the Charity Technology Exchange will provide new products and IT assistance to third sector groups from firms such as Cisco, Symantec and Microsoft.

Seamus McAleavey, chief executive of Nicva, said: "What charities often lack is the money to buy the modern technology they need to offer top-class services.

"This new scheme can close the divide and give us access to the sort of facilities that businesses already enjoy."

Potentially worth up to £20 million a year, the council added that the service could mean that some 4,000 non-profit organisations in the principality could benefit.

Following on from such assistance, it may be possible that charities are able to improve the skills framework of their staff.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that Help had launched a new site aimed at helping charities to benefit from receiving tax-efficient donations.
