Charities ‘to receive financial boost’
Those working for charities and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) could be in line for a funding boost, it has emerged.
Overall it is revealed that some £20 million is to be made available by the Department for International Development towards such organisations.
The Civil Society Challenge Fund - which is targeted at small and medium-sized civil society organisations - is to benefit from an additional £10 million over the next three years.
Meanwhile, the Governance and Transparency Fund is also to receive some £10 million to assist it in its work of helping citizens hold their government and other institutions to account.
Following on from such financing it may be possible that charities are able to improve the skills framework of their staff.
Douglas Alexander, secretary of state for international development, said: "This new funding is a clear signal of our commitment to support the vital work that NGOs and charities do across the world, helping to make real difference to the lives of millions blighted by poverty."
Earlier this month, the National Association for Voluntary and Community Action reported that it is important third sector organisations to become involved in the commissioning process for service contracts.
