Charities should use numerical data ‘to prove public benefit’

Those working for charities who are looking to demonstrate the public benefit of their services should make use of the numerical data provided in their Statement of Financial Activities (Sofa), it has been suggested.

According to Reza Motazedi, head of not-for-profit services at accounting firm Vantis, using information contained in the Sofa can help voluntary and charitable organisations to back up written claims in their annual reports that their activities are of benefit to their public.

Social ROI network launched

A network has been launched today (May 30th) which will allow those working for social enterprises to calculate levels of return on investment, it has been revealed.

Unveiled by the New Economics Foundation, the social return on investment (SROI) network aims to help ethical investment consultants and researchers to share data with one another, Third Sector reports.

Government ’should do more to combat age discrimination’

The government should take steps to reduce age discrimination, it has been claimed.

According to Help the Aged, despite the government’s equality bill aiming to eradicate discrimination on the grounds of "race, gender, disability, age, sexual orientation, religion or belief", it was stated that more should be done to support older people.

Birmingham charities invited to Compact focus group

Those working for voluntary and community groups in the West Midlands are being invited to take part in a discussion forum, it has been revealed.

On June 5th Compact Voice will ask third sector institutions in Birmingham on how they feel the Compact agreement is helping them to maintain their independence.

Charities ‘keen to keep volunteers’

Employee retention is increasingly important for those working for charities, it has been reported.

In research conducted by Volunteering England, it was indicated that 86 per cent of third sector bodies view building up relationships and keeping existing volunteers as a bigger priority than seeking new recruits.
