BME third sector consortium unveiled

Posted in News on the May 9th, 2008

Those working for black and minority ethnic (BME) voluntary organisations in the north-west of England are to operate as network partners, it has been revealed.

Launched by the Council of Ethnic Minority Voluntary Sector Organisations (Cemvo) in Manchester earlier this month, the North-West BME Third Sector Consortium is made up of about 90 charity, voluntary and community organisations.

The consortium has been created to help such institutions to make bids for regional service delivery contracts.

Rushi Munshi, regional director for Cemvo in the north-west, said: "The consortium will allow groups to bid regionally and deliver locally."

Although the consortium will have its own legal identity, Cemvo will act as an accountable body on bids where it is deemed appropriate.

In April, the National Association for Voluntary and Community Action (Navca) stated that it is important for groups operating within the third sector to become involved in the commissioning process for service contracts.
