Flexible working rights to be widened

Flexible working rights are set to be extended, it has been revealed.

After a report by Imelda Walsh, the government has confirmed that the ability to request work on a flexible basis will be widened to incorporate those consumers who have children up to the age of 16.

It was claimed that 4.5 million parents, which could include those working within the public sector, are set to benefit from the changes.

Previously, such a right was only available to registered carers and those parents with children who are less than six years old.

Brendan Barber, general secretary of TUC, said: "Any extension of the right to request flexible working is great news for parents struggling to combine work with their often hectic family lives."

Such news could be of interest to those managers operating within the public sector who are making use of a regional recruitment portal to attract staff.

In other news, findings released by the Learning and Skills Council showed that a record amount of money was spent on staff training.
