Charities ‘keen to keep volunteers’

Employee retention is increasingly important for those working for charities, it has been reported.

In research conducted by Volunteering England, it was indicated that 86 per cent of third sector bodies view building up relationships and keeping existing volunteers as a bigger priority than seeking new recruits.

And although volunteers may be unpaid, it was pointed out that taking on such third sector workers does involve costs.

Justin Davis Smith, chief executive of Volunteering England, said: "Good volunteer management does not come free.

"It involves induction, training, often criminal record bureau checks and other administrative duties - and this may well explain why people are so keen to hang onto the volunteers they already have."

Such news might be of interest to charities looking to make best use of recruitment management solutions.

Earlier this month, Mark Brooks, spokesperson for the National Association of Pension Funds, claimed that providing an appealing pension plan can help organisations, which could include employers in the third sector, to attract and retain staff.
