BME third sector consortium unveiled
Those working for black and minority ethnic (BME) voluntary organisations in the north-west of England are to operate as network partners, it has been revealed.
Launched by the Council of Ethnic Minority Voluntary Sector Organisations (Cemvo) in Manchester earlier this month, the North-West BME Third Sector Consortium is made up of about 90 charity, voluntary and community organisations.

Nesta to develop social finance market
The National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (Nesta) is looking to develop a social finance market, it has been revealed.
A part of its Challenge social innovation programme, Nesta is set to develop ways of engaging with small investors, following general concerns that they have been overlooked in the past.

‘More money being spent on staff training’
An increasing amount of money is being spent on training employees, it has been reported.
In the National Employer Skills Survey 2007 by the Learning and Skills Council it was revealed that an average of £1,750 was spent on improving the skills of each worker over the course of 2007, a record high.

Funding boost ‘announced for third sector’
Those working for social enterprises and other bodies within the third sector could be on track for a financial boost, it has emerged.
Earlier this week, Phil Hope, minister for the third sector, revealed a new government programme to help businesses measure social return on investment more effectively and enable investors to put a financial value on the environmental and social benefits received from the money which they plough in.

Finance directors ’should volunteer for charity boards’
Finance directors should volunteer on audit and risk committee boards for large charities, it has been suggested.
According to Charity Trustee Networks, by working for such charities as an independent member it will be possible for directors to build upon the skills required to become a chief executive.
