Third Sector Taskforce launched

Posted in News on the June 9th, 2008

A new initiative has been launched for organisations operating within the third sector, it has been stated.

In the Third Sector Taskforce, launched by the Association of Chief Executives for Voluntary Organisations (acevo) and the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP), the role in which community and voluntary organisations can play in welfare-to-work reform will be investigated.

Meeting each month, the initiative will look into how instances of best practice can be replicated across the country and recommend how obstacles to welfare-to-work reforms can be overcome.

Stephen Bubb, chief executive of acevo, said: "Many third sector organisations work at the coal-face of local communities and with their personalised and integrated approach they can play a vital role in transforming welfare-to-work programmes, as providers of and advocates for new and better services."

Meanwhile, Tony Hawkhead, chief executive of Groundwork and chair of the new DWP initiative, claimed that those operating in the third sector can play a crucial role in helping people get off welfare and back into the workplace.

Such an announcement may be of assistance to third sector groups looking to improve their skills framework.

In recent days, the National Association for Voluntary and Community Action unveiled its new Local Commissioning and Procurement Unit which aims to help local infrastructure organisations with procurement and commissioning.
