Welsh charities ’should work together with private sector’

Those working for charities and voluntary groups operating within Wales should develop stronger links with the private sector, a politician has claimed.

Speaking at an event held for voluntary organisations and businesses, Leighton Andrews, deputy regeneration minister for the National Assembly for Wales, claimed that private organisations, local councils and charities should work as network partners more often.

By doing so Mr Andrews reported charities could find that they are able to carry out their operations more effectively, Third Sector reports.

He said: "I believe more engagement with the private sector should be a key priority for the third sector.

"Such partnerships will contribute to the many social and regeneration programmes that we already have in place."

His comments come following the publication of a new report by the Assembly - The Third Dimension - A Strategic Action Plan - which aims to increase the number of private sector employees who get involved in volunteering.

In recent days the Association of Chief Executives of Voluntary Organisations called for the third sector and trade unions to work together on improving human resources and employment relations.
