Scottish charities ‘could receive financial assistance’

Posted in News on the June 11th, 2008

Those working for charities in Scotland could be on track to receive a financial boost, it has been reported.

The recently-created Scottish Community Foundation aims to release cash held in charitable trusts which have lain dormant for significant periods of time to donate to small third sector bodies throughout the region.

Under the terms of the scheme, the foundation aims to release money from 2,000 trusts controlled by Scotland’s 32 local authorities, ThirdSector.co.uk reports.

Robert Stevenson, public sector development manager for the Scottish Community Foundation, said: "We’re looking to form partnerships with councils to access this money for them.

"This will help fund Scotland’s smallest charities."

He went on to report that some of the trusts date back hundreds of years, although if cash from them is released than they can once again be made relevant.

Following on from such financial assistance it may be possible that charities are able to maintain sustainable efficiencies more effectively.

In related news, the Barrow Cadbury Trust fund recently revealed that it is to offer grants to voluntary bodies which aim to improve community relations.

More about sustainable efficiencies.
