NCVO establishes funding commission

Posted in News on the June 12th, 2008

Those operating in the charity sector could be on track to receive financial assistance in years to come, it has been revealed.

In moves announced by the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO), a new funding commission is to be created monitoring the funding position for organisations in the third sector.

Set to start work in 2009, the commission will also take responsibility for setting up a new funding agenda for charity and voluntary organisations.

Stuart Etherington, chief executive of the NCVO, said: "The creation of this commission is a very exciting development as it represents the first tangible output from our new civil society agenda."

He added that the overall aim of the commission "will be to come up with practical and public policy proposals that ensure secure funding for the voluntary sector, for the longer term".

The creation of such an institution may be of assistance to those charities looking to maintain sustainable efficiencies.

In a study carried out earlier this year, the NCVO revealed that a tenth of charities with an annual income of more than £10 million often experience sharp changes in their income.

Last month, James Bevan, investment officer for CCLA, claimed that charities are missing out on millions of pounds every year by having a bank account with a high street financial services provider.

More about sustainable efficiencies.
