LSC expands skills scheme for unpaid volunteers
Organisations operating within the third sector may find that the skills framework of their staff is improved.
The news comes as the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) has expanded its Train to Gain initiative to incorporate those working for charities and voluntary organisations on an unpaid basis.
Now volunteers will be able to access the same subsidies which are currently available to paid staff in the third sector to help improve the skills.
The LSC scheme allows employees to get in touch with skill brokers, who will then visit their place of work and offer guidance to staff and employers on selecting relevant training programmes.
Commenting on the news, Shirley Cramer, chair of the council’s third sector advisory group, stated: "This will provide real opportunities for third sector employers to access support, advice and funding to boost the development of their paid and unpaid workforces."
Earlier this month, the Cornwall Voluntary Sector Forum reported that the 3,000 voluntary and community groups across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly provide "real value".
