Phil Hope unveils social enterprise support fund

Posted in News on the June 18th, 2008

A multimillion pound investment has been announced for those working with social enterprises, it has been revealed.

Speaking at CapacityBuilders annual conference, Phil Hope, minister of the third sector, announced a fund for organisations offering support for social enterprises.

He said: "We have identified the need to offer more specific support to social enterprises.

"That is why I’m very pleased to announce this investment."

Overall, the investment is worth £6 million and will be made available over the next three years.

With the majority of the money set to be spent on a regional level, it is intended that the grant will finance initiatives such as mentoring schemes, gaining more access to accredited advisers and helping social enterprises to target emerging markets.

It is possible that such a fund could assist social enterprises to improve their skills framework.

Earlier this month, the National Council for Voluntary Organisations revealed that it is to create a funding commission to track the financial positioning of third sector groups.
